More New Blogs

Good morning boys and girls.  After starting 'Coach Goes Viral' last week, I decided during the course of the weekend that it would be prudent to start a pair of new blogs while the process was fresh in my mind, with the purpose of taking some of the topics out of this blog, which had become a warehouse for anything and everything that I chose to write about.  'Coach's Parlay Card' is going to be the new home for my sports predictions, while 'Three Chips Poker' is going to be my new poker home.  For those of you with blogs that I'm already linked to at 'Coach Goes Viral' and here, I'm going to link my new blogs to yours over the weekend when I have some free time.  I'm pretty confident that four blogs will be enough to sort out my thoughts...  :)

My interview for the new position that I'm trying to get at work was pushed back to Friday after the university had a delayed opening today due to the possibility of inclement weather, so I'll know something sooner rather than later (I hope).  :)  While I "ween" myself out of the sports prediction business here, I do want to brag on picking seven cars in Sunday's 'Daytona 500' (including the winner - Joey Logano at 16 to 1).  I also picked Minnesota to beat Dallas by exactly four goals on Sunday night (among other bets), and that winner paid 10 to 1.  It occurs to me that I'm also going to need to rewrite the introduction line to this blog above (so much to do)...  :)  Hopefully I'll have most of these blogs in order by the end of the weekend.  I broke my phone case yesterday (which I mention because it forced me to dig up my information for Amazon.  While I ordered a replacement case for $3.99, I was amused that one of the retailers was selling one for about $45.00 (hmmm, decisions, decisions)...

I'm going to stop here for now (just a little restless so I thought that I'd do something constructive - so much for that).  Have a good one and I'll see you soon...

Swimming With The Dolphins

"HOW HARD IS IT TO FIND A SPURS SHIRT IN CA?!  Texas, I miss you..." -Gabby Contreras-

"Most exciting moment of the day:  getting a notification that my cat tree has been delivered!  Belle is going to love it!" -Alyssa Macias-

"My son comes home from school this afternoon and says it was the worst day ever.  We asked why - he said because three girls have a crush on me...  LOL  Oh, the life of a nine year old..."
-Catherine Robbins-

Good afternoon everyone.  As you'll see shortly, this post will have a little bit more to it than those updates that I'm been giving you from lunch this week.  I feel like starting off with my friends today, and then we'll get to me.  My friends never cease to make my day, and the number is sitting on 777 (of course it is, it's my account, right?  #luckysevens) right now at facebook.  This means that I see a multitude of different things on a daily basis.  Gabby's quote at the very top up there came from out of the blue and had me laughing earlier in the week.  Gabby is a true San Marcos product, and she's living on the left coast now.  I told Gabby that her status made me laugh, and to post a photo if she succeeded in getting a shirt.  When all was said and done, Gabby came through with this shot...

HOWEVER, Gabby and myself know that this isn't the whole story.  FIRST, Gabby tagged me to this photo...

My response was laughter of course, because I could pretty much go to Amazon and find a random photo of a tee shirt...  :)  Gabby, Gabby, Gabby...  Well, Gabby and her new gear put up a valiant fight as the Spurs squared off against the Clippers at the Staples Center...

The Spurs ended up losing by four to L.A.  I think that Duncan scored THIRTY in this game??  The Spurs also lost at Golden State last night, and we may be nearing of the end of the title-run line with Duncan and Ginobili.  San Antonio is currently fighting to hang onto a playoff spot in the ridiculously loaded Western Conference.  Hopefully we can hang in there and find a little postseason magic.  Kudos to Gabby for hunting down the gear for the trip to L.A. though.  :)

Coincidentally, Gabby's partner in crime Alyssa happened to light up my facebook page this week also.  Alyssa even posted a photo to facebook of the UPS phone notification for the cat tree mentioned above...  :)  As I did with Gabby, I requested a photo of this thing when it came to fruition (Alyssa had to assemble it you see)...  It looks at though Belle does indeed love it...

Brandi..., Chad..., maybe if you got one of these for Callie, it would totally fix everything???  :P Oh, how I miss being harassed by Gabby and Alyssa and Gisele and Kim and Chelsea and Mo and Amy and the rest of the gang that I'm failing to mention because I can only tag so many people to one facebook post...  :)

I've also got another quote for y'all today in addition to those provided by Gabby, Alyssa, and Catherine, but I decided to include the whole meme that Kourtney shared because of the rabbit...  :)

And since we've seemed to transition to an animal theme here, I wanted to give a long overdue shoutout to 'The Onion.'  If you've never seen their site www.theonion.com/, 'The Onion' does an outstanding job of providing the world with fake news.  Yes, they just make stuff up and pass it on as real news.  You can also 'like' the facebook page of 'The Onion,' in addition to following them on twitter.  It was on the facebook version this week where I read about how you can go to Florida and swim with the dolphins...

Errrr, the Dolphins I mean...  ;)  Let me transition to family now.  I've recently mentioned my brother Pete, who has been beating up Red Rock since he returned to the Las Vegas poker scene.  Well, I've also got a stepsister who has been crushing the pavement recently.

I'm not sure if Whitney just wanted to get into better shape, or if she wanted to try out running, or if she was running low on wardrobe, but she has been collecting t-shirts from all over the area recently, in addition to medals and everything else that they give to race finishers.  This is a shot of the hill that her and her friends attacked today while doing training for a Spartan Race...

Great job Whitney!  This hill would have been fun when I was younger if it was covered in snow. Oh yeah, we had one of those, and it was at Remich Park...  ;)  While sledding was a good way to spend an afternoon, I have no desire to be anywhere near that stuff they call snow...

My friend Brigette shared this photo from Massachusetts that was posted by Fox 13, and I still say NO THANK YOU...

"So what about you Coach?"  Well, I'm still inside on this beautiful Saturday, for one thing.  I looked at the long-range forecast this morning, and it looks like today (high 75, low 51) is the nicest weather that we're gonna see for the next 10 days.  I have the Texas/Iowa State game playing on the t.v. beside me, and going to the commercial break, they showed a shot of the Capitol Building from the campus of UT, and there's all these students laying out on the lawn, and kids in the foreground chatting, and I literally got up from this chair to look out the window.  I'm all, "is it really that nice outside???"  We actually have a Tuesday forecast for a high of 38, low of 32, with a 60% chance or rain, so there appears to be our best chance to see ice.  Remember, it's 75 today...  :)

My new blog has ended up taking up a lot of my time this week, and one thing has become clear:  being the new blog is like being the youngest child evidently (or so I've heard, since I'm the oldest)...  :)  While my younger brother has the benefit of all of my sports wagering and poker wisdom to pull from (AHEM...), 'Coach Goes Viral' coachgoesviral.blogspot.com/ will be the beneficiary of the "blogging network" (for lack of a better term) that is already in place here for 'Bikini Hill.'  Thanks to my blogging friends who have been kind enough to link to my blog here and to the new one, and to those of you who follow this blog regularly (in addition to sharing your lives with me), the new blog is going to benefit from somewhat of a built-in following.  When I started 'Bikini Hill,' I didn't have close to 800 facebook friends, and my twitter following wasn't over 3,000 people.  Let me pass along to you what I shared with my brother this morning...  When I started writing this blog at the end of September in 2011, it received 48 views in that month, and 247 in October.  'Coach Goes Viral' is currently sitting at 179 pageviews, and it was just born on Wednesday...  In line with the "oldest child" receiving less attention, I'll probably be writing more entries for the new blog just due to its nature.  'Coach Goes Viral' is a place that I've created to vent and rant (mostly about sports, but by no means limited to that), and it's pretty easy for me to type about what's bothering me on the spot (why Jameis Winston shouldn't be talking about winning the Super Bowl next year when he doesn't even know what team he's going to be playing for yet, for example)...  It usually takes me a little more time to prepare entries for this blog (whether that involves predicting the outcomes of sporting events, or compiling all of the things that my friends are kind enough to let me share with you,  etc...).  It's definitely going to be interesting as these siblings learn to adjust to each other.  As I've said recently (either here or there, I already don't remember), this is most likely going to end up being my "happy blog" (where I'm pretty upbeat, telling you about my life, and my friends, and chatting with you in general), while 'Coach Goes Viral" is going to be my "angry blog" (and I'm not saying that witty and sarcastic isn't going to be amusing), but I'll usually be writing about things that have gotten under my skin for one reason or another at the new site.  Today I already had a girl on twitter telling me that Jameis Winston can talk about the Super Bowl if he wants, so I have a feeling that the new blog is going to be fun (you know, after the venting and the ranting)...  ;)

After I post this I'll be going back to Bovada to finish out my micro betting for the day, and then I'll have the t.v. tuned into those specific college basketball games and hockey games (I LOVE betting hockey - two games on tonight) that I have action on while I get more done around my apartment.  I'm mulling over whether or not I want to venture down to 6th Street tonight, because if I decide not to, I probably won't be able to go next weekend either due to the weather.  I refuse to go to 6th just to be cold and miserable...

Well, like I said, a little bit longer than my lunch updates from work this week...  :P  I hope that all of you have a great weekend and I'll see you soon!

Happy Friday

Good afternoon everyone.  I have a few free minutes here at the end of lunch, so I thought that I'd catch up with you.  My biggest news is that I've started a new blog.  It's called 'Coach Goes Viral' and can be found at coachgoesviral.blogspot.com/  If you click on the link, you'll find the explanation for why I started the new blog (it's pretty lengthy and I don't want to retype it.  :)  For now I've finished setting that blog page up (colors, etc), but you know that will change over time, as the color scheme has here since your last visit.  Yesterday was an extremely tiring workday for me, so I'm extremely happy that today is Friday.  The prospects of me doing "real posts" here and for my new blog look outstanding for this weekend, so stay tuned.  I've applied for a new position at UT (waiting to hear about that) and I've also been occupying myself with that micro sports betting.  My biggest coup this week was picking LA to beat Colorado by exactly three goals a few night ago, which paid 6 to 1.  That same night, I had taken North Carolina to beat Duke straight up for $3.20 to 1, but a late Tar Heel meltdown cost me a stellar night.

I've gotta run again, but I promise to see y'all this weekend (in both blogs).  Hope that the rest of your day flies by!!!

Blogger Friends

I GUESS that everyone is welcome to read this entry, but I just wanted to ask a favor of my blogging friends who are linked to this blog.  I started a new blog yesterday at coachgoesviral.blogspot.com/  If you like my new concept, please give me a link back - I've already linked to all of you.  The new blog page is still VERY under construction, so give me a day or two (I don't want you linked to something hideous either).  :)  Thanks guys and gals...

Turn Out The Lights?

Good afternoon everyone.  Yeah, I'm back again, probably feeling guilty about not giving you a "real post" in over a week.  Today has been very interesting on the 'Forty Acres' (The University of Texas at Austin).  The whole campus lost power at approximately 8:12 a.m. today, and it took a couple of hours to fully restore it.  I'm using the phrase "fully restore" loosely as the wireless access on campus (and my Verizon wireless) seem to be hit or miss right now.  As all of this darkness was happening, KXAN (a local station) reported that Austin police were investigating a pair of bomb threats near the university this morning.  At least one of the threats involved a place on West Campus (a.k.a. my neighborhood).  As I've sat here at lunch perusing my facebook page, there are rumors that the Riviera may have its lights turned out also.  There is a story about this in the Las Vegas Review Journal's facebook site.  Quite the Tuesday morning here in the ATX.  I'm also reading that today is 'Fat Tuesday.'  That pretty much guarantees that this day isn't going to become dull anytime soon...

You'll be happy to know (thrilled, I'm sure) that I submitted my job application for the position here on campus (stay tuned).  While we're speaking of job hunting, I noticed that fellow blogger Cokeboy only has one official follower on his blog page (yes, that would be me), so get over there and follow his blog. Hopefully my mentioning this and you following his blog will provide double good karma (it's a thing) and we'll both find ourselves with new job titles.  And after that, maybe the Cubs will have a winning season and I'll actually win a sports bet...  ;)  Cokeboy is the Cubs fan, in case you're confused.  I'm still a proud supporter of the Red Sox, who will be thankful to even see the grass at Fenway if this snow in the Northeast ever ends...

Okay, I'll bug you more later.  Have a great day and "more power to ya..." Uggghhh...

Rambles & Rants

Good afternoon everyone.  I must apologize for neglecting my blog over the weekend.  I was very productive after work on Friday in that I managed to get my hair cut and I went grocery shopping, but after that, the rest of my weekend, I was just kinda..., meh...  All of my great plans for productively continuing to unpack and set up my apartment gave way to watching sports and how my micro bets played out.  I also took three hour naps on both Saturday and Sunday.  I did get my wash done yesterday morning though, so you have to give me credit for that.  Yeah, three hour naps..., BOTH days...  lol

It's lunchtime as I sit typing for you here in the Texas Union.  Speaking of lunch, not only does Wendy's have that free Jr. Frosty deal w/any purchase after you buy that $1.00 keytag, but it's pretty hard to beat their Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap for $1.29.  I used to habitually take naps at lunch, but I've substituted a 99 cent cup of coffee for those (in case you're keeping score at home).

Today after work I have to finish submitting that job application that I was telling you about before.  It turns out that the job hadn't been officially posted yet, so I stayed up Wednesday night cleaning up my resume' and my list of references.  I will have a new and/or extra job sometime in the near future, so stay tuned.

I watched parts of last night's NBA All-Star Game, and I still continue to be amazed at all of the attention that LeBron James receives.  Just like when I tuned into last year's NBA Finals, he still gives up on plays, and I never hear any comments regarding his being lazy in the mainstream media.  Specifically, from last night, he attempts a three-pointer from the corner near the end of the game, stands out there and watches for like 5 seconds while members of both teams battle for the rebound, and then finally comes to the paint after his team gets a putback bucket.  I can't tell you how many times I've seen him miss a shot and not go back to play defense.  For the press that James receives compared to the Spurs, you would think that he's 5-1 in the Finals and that the Spurs are 2-3 (it's actually the other way around, by the way)...  ;)

An overdue sports rant that I owe you is centered on Joe Flacco and his playoff record against Tom Brady.  Entering their divisional matchup this year, the media would not stop talking about how Flacco was 2-1 against Brady in the playoffs.  They neglected to mention that Flacco was accompanied during that time by Ray Lewis & Ed Reed led (among others) defenses, and that Anquan Boldin was bailing out Flacco left and right during their Super Bowl run a few years ago.  Am I the only one who see this stuff???

Our weather has sadly dipped down into highs in the 40's today, which still doesn't give me the right to mention the temperatures compared to my friends up in New England.  You have to hand it to the people on the east coast.  I was watching the Flyers/Sabres game last night, and they had over 18,000 people show up for a hockey game in Buffalo, New York.  Some troopers up there, for sure...

I continue to remain jealous of all of the poker exploits of my brother and my fellow blog writers, although I haven't taken the iniative to fire up the Bovada poker as of yet.  My hockey and basketball micro bets have provided me with plenty of entertainment so far...  :)  My brother has been successful out at Red Rock since his return to the desert, and coupled with the poker stories from that group listed to the right with the poker links, I'll probably end up downloading the Bovada poker again very shortly...

For those of you who are off today, you suck, by the way...  :)  I hope that y'all have a great start to your week, and I'll catch up with you again in the next few days (probably)...

You're Getting Cheated

Good afternoon everyone.  I believe that this is the first time that I've done a post from my phone in..., well..., a while.  Don't worry, my plumbing problems didn't knock out my internet.  I'm at lunch right now, and I have to get a job application done tonight (w/resume, letter of interest), so I thought that I'd say hello to you now.  This job application is actually for a promotion here at UT, so wish me luck.

The hockey and hoops were very good to me in my micro sports betting last night, as I saw my micro bankroll increase almost 30%.  I hit a 15/2 stab for a buck when I bet the Stars to beat the Bruins by exactly 2 goals.  Boston was starting Rask's backup in net, so I took the plunge (not hedging with any other totals).  I also had LSU +9 1/2 vs. Kentucky (and almost won $3.75 For $1.00 Taking the Tigers money line.  I'm seeing that some words are going to be erroneously capitalized due to my use of decimal points, so forgive me.  Anyway, the NBC Sports Network is cooperating by airing a hockey doubleheader tonight, and in addition to the multitude of college basketball games on t.v., I'll have plenty to keep me distracted while I apply.

Anyway, I'm sorry that you're getting cheated on this blog entry, as I'm not stealing even a single thing from my friends, but I'll see you again this weekend.  Have a great rest of the week!

Emmitt Smith Gazed Into My Eyes

"The Costco curse - came for butter and left with three pieces of luggage and a vacuum cleaner..." -Emmy Ellis-

"Mom, I love you....more than my Kindle." --- "That actually means a lot to me..." -Susan Eidson-

"Yes, I dance in my car.  Yes, I see you staring at me.  No, I don't care..." -via Alyssa Lesa-

"Don't take things personally.  What other people say about you is their reality, not yours..."
-Kourtney Chalmers-

"I tried killing a spider with glitter body spray.  Now it won't stop stripping and I have to call it Cinnamon..." -via Carren Chaffin Anderson-

"Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will..." -Karim Seddiki- (via Cindy & Mark Hudgens)

Good evening everyone.  I'm sorry that this is coming to you so late tonight (more about that later), and no, Emmitt Smith didn't gaze into MY eyes...  I was at work on Thursday, just minding my own business, when this appeared on the ole facebook...

"Kickin it with Emmitt Smith!!  #NoBigDeal #TCEA2015 #Legend #HeKnowsMyName
-Brittany Flores-

I'm sure that Emmitt posted a similar status to his facebook expressing his excitement about meeting Brittany...  :)  I'm sure that you recognize Brittany as the good luck charm who introduced my winning football picks (FINALLY) at the end of the football season, which led to my first comment on her status...

"You'll stop at nothing to be in the blog repeatedly...  #heknowsmyname lol"

Brittany came right back with, "hahaha he does!!  He said "hello Brittany how are you today" as he gazed into my eyes ha ha"  This was obviously an awesome response, seeing that it got five facebook 'likes...'  :)  Not one to be deterred, I replied with...

"..."Gazed into my eyes" - you're trying too hard now...  Brittany Flores... :)"  (And don't I don't an incredible job of recreating the experience of facebook in this story?)  Brittany elicited one more smile from me and won this facebook conversation when she trumped me with...

"Haha seriously we had a moment you should have seen it!!"

Brittany, Brittany, Brittany...  :D

Now whenever Brittany appears in the blog, I'll probably have to say "Brittany (endorsed by Emmitt Smith)," or "Brittany (Emmitt Smith approved)..."  :P  I thought that y'all would enjoy that little exchange, and it's nice to know that Emmitt Smith is cool enough to take a minute out of his day to pose for a photo with our friend.  If I recall correctly, Emmitt Smith rushed for a couple of yards in the NFL (a couple of yards more than anyone else who ever played the game)...  Tough son of a gun - I'll never forget this late season game against the Giants in the Meadowlands, when Emmitt was having a little problem with his shoulder...  Oh, and I totally have to give Brittany credit here, in that she posted a new profile photo later in the week, and she didn't capitalize on her photo op with Emmitt to show off (like I have here - ha ha)...  ;)  Good stuff Brittany and Emmitt...  :)

Ahhhh, I was also at work this past week when Sara decided to post this gem, "A typical, "I don't wanna go to work" selfie...

There's obviously a conspiracy among my facebook friends to post statuses that make my day... Thank you Sara...  :)  And it's funny, because my friend Monica put up a new profile photo later in the week (a "selfie" if you will) that reminded me of Sara's picture...,

EXCEPT that Monica's snapshot is an "I wanna go to work selfie, because I just got a new job!!!" Monica's new opportunity is so great that it even takes her out of San Marcos, America (which tells you that it MUST be a good job, to make her leave San Marcos).  Congratulations on the new opportunity Monica!

It looks like I have one more photo from my friends to share (and have you noticed that this whole entry has been stolen from the lives of my friends so far?), and this one comes to you from Colleen and Brenden.  If any of you eligible bachelorettes out there think that this would be the ideal cake for our wedding (or if anyone is throwing a wedding reception where you plan on cutting into one of these), please get in touch with me...  :)

Alright, back to my life.  I would've probably posted this entry earlier today, but I went to bed really late last night, and it wasn't for a good reason either (like getting home late after enjoying the sights and sounds of 6th Street, etc...).  Get ready for this Courtney and Lindsey (my friends and former apartment managers who would never put me through this)...  At about 5:15 yesterday afternoon, I noticed a really soggy spot in the carpet in my bathroom, and I discovered that the base of my toilet was leaking. Now this leak wasn't constant, but I also noticed that there was dirt (?) in my bathtub.  Really long story short, the first call that I made was at 5:20, and maintenance first arrived on the scene at 8:00 p.m.  He did what he assumed fixed the small amounts of wastewater coming up the pipe and visiting my bathtub, and he didn't think that the toilet would leak anymore either.  Well, I was calling him again at 9:30, and he didn't return until about 11:00 p.m.  OH, did I tell you that I called him because my bathtub was now FULL of wastewater, and that my toilet was FULL and overflowing?  Yeah, good times...  After he saw this, and learned that he also was experiencing this problem in two other units, he tells me that he told the plumber to "come quick."  NOW he understood my sense of urgency, finally...  Anyway, it was sometime around 1:00 a.m. when everyone finally left (the plumber and maintenance man said that they didn't do anything, by the way).  I know that they were both on the property when the toilet finally drained itself, with my bathtub soon following suit.  The plumber said that the clog/stoppage must have resolved itself, which in all honesty makes me feel uneasy, because now I'm just waiting for this to happen again. So yeah, between playing phone tag with people to get this issue resolved yesterday, while drying my bathroom floor intermittently so that the water wouldn't seep onto my bedroom carpet... Yesterday was not a lot of fun...

Anyway, I got to bed late last night, so I woke up late this morning.  I woke up in time to make my suspect sports bets for the day however, as I've continued my online sports micro-betting.  I would love to see some goals in this Montreal/Boston game, so of course the Canadiens are hitting every goalpost in sight.  Ironically, about the only success that I had yesterday was in the Stars/Sabres game, as college basketball was not very nice to me.  In conjunction with my plumbing nightmare, I was watching Gonzaga not cover against San Francisco.  If Gonzaga had score three more points, I would have finished yesterday as a winner rather than a loser.  I had a pair of parlays that bit the dust because the game officials called an offensive foul every time that a Zag with possession of the basketball came into contact with a San Francisco defender.  The calls were so ridiculous that it actually looked like the officials were fixing the game.  However, when I went to whine on twitter, I noticed that one of the people who 'favorited' my comment about the officiating had tweeted on their own page that it was obvious that the officials wanted Gonzaga to win the game...  :)  It's all a matter of perspective I guess...  I've discovered that when I bet the 'over' on basketball games, I'll win some and I'll lose some, but if I bet the 'under,' both teams will score out of their minds...

I'm watching all of these microbets as I attempt to get my apartment put together like I want (I had the BEST intentions of working on this last night when my bathroom became such an issue). Boston actually just scored a goal in this game that's gonna help me on my "in-game" bet if I can get another one (2-1 right now - 3:00 left).  GOAL!!!!  HA HA HA...  Y'all are good luck...  :D  I'm trying to get my USC (+14.5, under 149) parlay home also, if you can help me out on that...  ;) The under, I know, I know, but I'm good right now (3:30 left in the game, 65-59 Stanford).  I obviously still have to get all of my job stuff together to add another job or get a replacement that improves my current situation (enables me to save up more money), and I definitely still have plenty of catching up to do here in the blog about my Las Vegas and Reno adventures.  By the way, it's interesting how much I get into these microbets, considering the paltry amounts of money that are involved...  :)  I just like being right, and we all know that it doesn't happen very often...  :P Speaking of that, Joey and I should be back to put up picks of some sort when the NCAA Tourney begins.  Anyway, so back to my mid-fall adventures, I saw an Enterprise commercial today, and I still haven't told you how horribly that company treated me at the airport in Las Vegas when I tried to pick up my reserved vehicle for my trip to Reno.  I also haven't praised Avis like I need to.  I have so much to write about, and I hate having the backlog.  However, I'm going to keep it down to a pair of posts each week in an attempt to get my other chores done.  Stanford 70  USC 62 - Woo Hoo!!!  :P

I'm going to stop for now, but I'll bug you again midweek.  Have a good one and I'll see you soon!

Katy Perry, For The Win

"You just gotta ignite..., the light..., and let..., it shine..., just own..., the night..., like the Fourth of July..." -Katy Perry- (Firework)

"I am high off life right now!!!" -Veronica Soliz-

"Great game!  My honey's team won!" -Crystal Maiorka-

Good evening boys and girls.  Although the football season just recently came to an end (for the next seven months), we still have a lot to cover here tonight.  The addict (degenerate) that I am, I currently have 'Southwest Signing Day '15' on the t.v. beside me as I type this.  I'll be switching to Bruins @ Rangers on the NBC Sports Network in just over an hour.  Yes, we have a lot to cover tonight...

The Super Bowl is going to be the main topic here tonight, and we're going to begin with the halftime show...

For starters, I want to personally congratulate Katy Perry for CRUSHING the halftime show. Different people are obviously going to have various tastes in music, but Katy made the halftime show exactly what I think it should be.  Katy turned halftime into a spectacle, and with the various performers and dancers and and stage transformations and costume changes and fireworks, and, and, and...  Amazing job Katy!  I've read in several places where people really liked Missy Elliott, with some saying that they liked her more than Katy Perry.  I'm sure that there are some Lenny Kravitz fans out there also.  My thing is that Katy Perry was the one who was invited to do the show, and that Missy (and Lenny) wouldn't have been there without her blessing.  I think that the performance was great as a whole, and that Katy (or whoever she put in place to help her choreograph it) did an outstanding job.  I might not be Katy's target audience (although I have quoted her 'Firework' lyrics here before - I like the positive, encouraging message of the song), but I definitely admire her energy, and I was also impressed with her College GameDay appearance in Oxford this season prior to the Alabama/Ole Miss game.  I mean, she showed up with drinks for the other members on the set.  In a word, Katy's just..., cool.  Thank you for a great halftime Katy - awesome job!

With all of that being said, I'm sure that most of you know that I'm a huge football fan, and that I'll have this huge hole in my world for the next seven months.  However, I did have a successful end to this season as a prognosticator (and I can't let myself go too far before saying this, because Brittany's photo ties right in with Katy's "firework" theme)...

With Brittany's good karma leading the way, I went 6-0 down the stretch in the conference championship games and the Super Bowl (against the spread and the totals).  This brought my final tally to 75-77-2 for the football season.  Joey finished 5-1 down the stretch, his only miss being picking the 'under' on the Super Bowl, and his final total for the season was 70-79-5.  A huge shoutout to Joey for giving me his picks here for the whole football season (it really is A LOT of picks), and my sincere appreciation also goes out to Brittany and all of my other friends who let me use their photographs so that you weren't subjected to seeing my face week after week leading into my picks...  ;)  And yes, I'm proud to say that stealing from the lives of my friends will continue to be a running theme here in my little blog...

Speaking of my friends (and the Super Bowl), I was proud to have picked a final score of 34-23 Patriots in a game that ended up 28-24 Pats.  However, my friend Stephanie picked the EXACT FINAL SCORE for a contest that was sponsored by a local wings place.  Unfortunately, the restaurant had over sixty winners (this was probably at more than one location - I'm not sure), and Steph didn't receive the $1,000.00 prize for nailing the score (or any part of that).  I thought at the least they could have given everyone gift certificates if they weren't going to split the prize evenly, but I still wanted to give Steph the credit that she deserves.  When she played basketball for me (yes, 100 years ago), among her other good qualities, Stephanie would stand her ground in front of ANYONE to take a charge...  :)  Keep your head up Steph, and outstanding prediction!

Veronica...  :)  Oh, if I only had the time and energy to retype the whole facebook status that she entered after her quote above.  Veronica issued a statement on the Patriots and how excited she was that would have made one of Rob's blog entries proud...  :)  Veronica is one of the few Patriots fans that I know here in Texas, and she posts more in support of them than anyone I know, my friends in New England included.  Courtesy of her sister (and my friend) Valerie, this gem of a rice krispy treat was at their Super Bowl Party...

Awesome, huh?  :)  And by now, y'all know what the result was hours later...

Now if I was a petty person, I might start whining and crying about why I wasn't invited to this party.  However, I'm instead going to shed tears over why my friend Crystal didn't invite me to ARIZONA...  Leading up to the Super Bowl, I was seeing Crystal's posts and photos from the Grand Canyon State, and I was assuming that she went for the game.  However, not only is Crystal's favorite guy a Patriots fan (she's slowly being brainwashed to convert from her Cowboys allegiance she says), but they LIVE in Arizona currently...

This is the rare Super Bowl photo of the jets buzzing your neighborhood (also notice the seemingly spooked bird in the upper left corner of the shot).  And this would be the postgame cheer...

Pretty sweet...  :)  So I wasn't invited to San Marcos, and I wasn't invited to Glendale, and I wasn't invited to the Alps either...

This breathtaker comes to us from Germany, courtesy of my friend Candice (who I also know from San Marcos, America).  So, no San Marcos, no Glendale, no Germany, and no New Hampshire...

Here we have a candid photo from my high school classmate Tina (pictured front and center), a genuine shot from New England.  I assume that this picture was taken right after the interception at the goal line.  Although I picked the Patriots to win the game, my expression most closely resembled that of the guy in the blue Pats windbreaker, as I was STUNNED that the Seahawks threw in that situation (a sentiment that was shared by several of my New England friends based on their 'likes' of my little postgame facebook diatribe)...  :)

While you're surely feeling pity for me in that none of these fine people invited me to join their festivities, and that no one invited me to watch the game in Las Vegas, I was PLENTY BUSY..., tracking my prop bets...  :P  The final damage was that I reclaimed $46.66 of the $60.00 that I bet on the game (yes, I bet another $10.00 after I was finished with you fine folks).  The bets that I cashed were Pats (-1 1/2) parlayed w/over (47.5), Pats moneyline, Edelman over 100 yds. receiving, Brady over 30 completions, Brady over 300 yds. passing, Brady 4+ T.D. passes, Brady 2 picks, Amendola scoring a T.D., Wilson 2 T.D. passes, and YES to a 2nd half lead change.  I hit 10 out of 56 bets, and lost just under $14.00...  Gotta love underdog prop betting...  Brady throwing 4 T.D. passes paid the best, winning $7.00 on a $1.00 bet.

Before I leave you tonight, I also have a new blog link for you to check out (and this one is already included in my list on the right).  My friends Rachael and Kyle (a couple of SMHS alums) have a started a new business venture, and the link to their blog is https://fishslayer.com/blog  From here you can click 'home' at the top of their page, which brings you to "Your Only Source for Booking Guided Fishing Trips."  The blog (like the business) is in its infancy, so you can pretty much follow along from the start.  I told Rachael yesterday that they're eventually bound to get some hits from poker players reading my blog ("fish slayer")...  I was honestly surprised at how long it took me to make that connection yesterday...  :P

Katy, thanks again for a great halftime show, and to all of my friends who are Patriots fans, enjoy it, because the Steelers will be back next year!!!  Okay..., congratulations...  ;)  Enjoy the rest of your week and I'll see y'all again this weekend!
