Hard To Watch

Good morning everyone.  I'm still trying to bounce back personally from this weekend.  I think that I'm at about my limit for watching coverage and reading about the senseless tragedy that took place in Aurora, Colorado for the time-being.  It just seems that it is way too easy to express opinions publicly these days, and not only in print, but also in the televised media.  Among the stupid, irrelevant things that I've digested this weekend:  1)  Some moron in a comment section to an online article putting the thought out there that this whole event might have been "staged"...  2)  Another genius, who wondered if the movie itself was RESPONSIBLE for what happened...  3)  On television this morning, there was an interview/discussion about whether this tragedy would affect the new Batman movie at the box office...  "Well, a lot of the tickets that were sold were bought in advance, so it's going to take a few days to tell how this truly affects ticket sales..." Totally incomprehensible......  To all of the victims of this senseless act, my heart goes out to you...  When they showed the 'suspect' (don't get me started) in the courtroom a few moments ago, I was thinking that if I was the public defender assigned to this case, I'm looking for a new job...  Defend him??  No thanks...  Today was a day with far-reaching effects as the result of another tragedy.  For all of the innocent victims of Jerry Sandusky, and as a result of the non-action to end the situation by those close to it, Pennsylvania State University was penalized by the NCAA earlier.  I am not going to restate the punishment that was doled out here (it will be all over the news today), but I will tell you that the Penn State football program will not be relevant for a very long time when it comes to winning.  The Nittany Lions were dealt a crushing blow today, and I feel badly for the vast majority of people who are closely associated with Penn State and will be suffering these consequences through no fault of their own - the impact will extend well beyond the confines of the football stadium... I have pretty much decided that whatever time frame I am given to make a move, it will take me EXACTLY that much time to prepare for the move.  The end of the month is approaching FAST, and I still have packing and details to take care of (for those of you who have been following along here regularly, I KNOW that this comes as a HUGE SHOCK to you)...  Also in the 'huge shock' department, the fantasy baseball team is still in 10th place, and is still creeping up the deficit ladder, now just less than 8 points from being in 5th place (we're really packed together tightly at the bottom of the barrel)...  I am now 8-9 in the imaginary money baseball betting, and I am taking the Red Sox and Rangers to score over 10 1/2 points tonight to get me to the .500 mark...  Oh, and if anyone has a job lead or a housing lead in Las Vegas, please let me know...  I have been so busy sorting and packing that I haven't concentrated my efforts in these semi-important directions yet...  :)  I do have a lot to do, so I'll see you again on Wednesday, when I'll probably let you know that I have a lot left to do...  Have a good one!

  1. The one thing about the PSU situation that rubs me the wrong way is vacating wins. Yes, I can see it in cases where ineligible players were used, but if you somehow want to punish Paterno beyond the grave this is not a way to do it imo.

  2. That point was made earlier today - would the people dispensing these various sanctions, removing statues, etc... be this brave/active if Paterno was still alive...

  3. No job, no place to stay? Wow, you are brave. Good luck. I'm sure it'll work out.

  4. Brave/stupid - potAto/poTAUto... :) The place that I rented for 599 a month 5 years ago is 399 a month now (indicative of the current Vegas housing market). If I can find one job, any job, I'll be good...

  5. quite curious to know which place is the one thats been reduced to $399 a month, and how dangerous a neighberhood it is. if u are not as familiar with vegas as me, u might not realize its unsafe. Claudia and i looked around at apts, but no luck. of course, she didnt want to commit to a 6 months or more lease on my behalf so my options were somewhat limited. very few are month to month, and weekly costs way too much a month or is unsafe.

  7. cannot understand why people pay $400 a month to rent a room, when for just slightly more, u can have the entire apt to urself. not worth it unless u are paying less than half price.

  8. I deleted my first answer because I know you've already seen it sevencard. Reasons for renting a room --- flexible leases, cheaper than an apartment, no application fee, no apartment deposit (or very minimal), no utilities deposit, no utility bill (or split, in some cases), no cable bill (or split, in some cases), no internet bill (or split, in some cases), and I don't need a lot of space (which is why the cheap studio was just fine). I don't live in Las Vegas to spend tons of time in my apartment or room... ;)
