Week 10 Football Picks/13-14

Good evening everyone.  I'm sorry about the late Football Friday post this week, but I decided to celebrate me a little Halloween on 6th Street last night.  That meant taking a long nap after I got home from work so that I could stay out as late as I dared while still being able to get to work on time this morning.  This photo shows the relevant part of my "costume..."

In other news, the Boston Red Sox are you 2013 WORLD CHAMPIONS!  That would probably explain the change in the blog's current color scheme...  ;)  I was down on 6th for less than 2 hours, and I had about 50 people (ballpark - pun intended) who either said something about Boston or the Red Sox or shook my hand or high-fived or fist-bumped me.  One guy said, "EFF Boston!" It's lonely at the top...  :D  This is what 6th looked like at 11:00 p.m. (and keep in mind that the bars don't close until 2:00 a.m.)...

Also keep in mind that this is only a snapshot (pun intended again) of a very small portion of the festivities that were taking place.  Oh, you said that you came here for some football?  Alright... Although I was only able to recruit three celebrity experts last week in my laziness, they did go undefeated.  Texas State beat South Alabama 33-31 (in a wild game that I chronicled in a decent amount of detail in my last blog entry - thanks again James!) and Texas beat TCU 30-7 in a game that was delayed for several hours by lightning (not lightning36).  There have been more football games delayed this season by weather than I can remember during any other year in my lifetime, and I'm 100 years old...  ;)  I don't have many more experts for you this week as I went strictly via the twitter route, but they all picked Texas State and Texas to win their games, and the Bobcats and Horns are 10 and 28 point favorites to win their games, respectively...
Here are your predictions for this week...

I have a feeling that Joey is going to like one of those UT/Kansas scores (spoiler alert).  Without any further ado (since this post is already late), coming to you live from the Palace Station Sportsbook in Las Vegas, Nevada, here's our birthday boy!

Joey's Parlay Card (Last weekend 2-0/Overall record of 9-6 on Aggies, Bobcats, and Longhorns games)

A great week for us bettors.  Lots of parlay cards were cashed with most favorites covering the spread, so we are gonna try and keep it up again this week.  I'll start with Texas at home against Kansas.  The Longhorns have won 4 of the last 5 games and are displaying a much tighter defense.  Kansas has scored only twenty points once this season, and that was against South Dakota.  This one won't be close as Texas rolls 42-7.  The Bobcats are on the road to Idaho this weekend.  True freshman QB Tyler Jones is improving each week but Texas State is 0-3 against the spread when favored this year.  I do like the Bobcats to win 28-21.  Finally my New Mexico State Aggies are on the road to Louisiana-Lafayette.  NMSU had to hold on last week against an FCS opponent.  The Ragin' Cajuns should have no trouble this week, winning by a final of 49-7. That's all this week and may all your parlay cards be winners!

I still want to eat a big steak every week after posting that photo...  :)  Our favorite Texans' fan Alyssa is once again going to get a bye on having the shot of her head buried in my shoulder displayed this week, but the Texans have to beat the Colts on Sunday for next week...  And here she is, with her "lil sis" and the blog's homecoming queen, Gabby...  ;)  And Alyssa is the cat (DUH)...

Alyssa's Corner (Last weekend 2-0/Overall record of 10-12 on Texans, Bobcats, and Longhorns games)

Alright guys, I dominated at the office potluck this time!  As you remember from the last office potluck, I brought spaghetti and NO ONE touched it.  This time I made my salsa and I made dirt pudding.  They were both eaten up!  I must say I'm feeling pretty proud of myself.  At the office today most people dressed up in costumes, but as Coach mentioned in a previous post, I am not a fan of dressing up for Halloween.  My costume consisted of cat ears that I put on every time someone mentioned me not dressing up.  However, I did decorate my apartment balcony, rail, door, and cat for Halloween.  I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in the apartment complex to do so.  I just really want some trick or treaters, just one would make me happy...that way I can eat the leftover candy I bought.  Earlier this week I entered my cat into the department pet costume contest.  The instructions said to send a picture with the animal's name and age, so I did what the instructions requested.  I get an email back asking for the names of my cat's parents...or if I was the only parent of my cat.  I've never felt more like a crazy cat lady than to say I'm a single cat parent.  This weekend I am making the six-hour drive back to Houston.  I am bringing my boyfriend to my hometown to meet my momma and to go to the Houston Texans Sunday night football game!  My mom got suite tickets for the game so I'm super excited for all the food that will be there.  I'm feeling very optimistic on how Case will play this Sunday.  I hope everyone has a fantastic Halloween and a great weekend!  Here are my predictions...

Texans vs. Colts:  24-17 Texans
Bobcats vs. Idaho:  28-14 Bobcats
Texas vs. Kansas:  35-17 Texas

Alyssa also sent along photos of her dirt pudding and salsa (because we know that Joey's weekly photo isn't enough to satisfy your hunger)...

And that's officially the most photos that I've ever included in a blog entry, and I'm now officially hungry...  You did catch how Alyssa is super excited about the suite for the Texans game because of all the FOOD that will be there, right?...  :)  Okay, well Coach got the Bobcats and Horns games right last week, but he went (whispering) 3-7 on his '10 Best Bets...'  (Still whispering)  This means that Coach currently has a... losing record for the season on his best bets...  (Back to normal volume)  I fully attribute last week's lackluster performance to posting the wrong photo of the blog's mascot, so I'm going to put up my favorite shot of Belle The Cat, and we'll go at least 8-2 this week...  ;)

Coach (Last weekend 2-0/Overall record of 9-6 on Bobcats and Longhorns games)

Well, I had already taken the 'Under 50' on tomorrow's Bobcats/Vandals game, and that's before I knew that the high up in Moscow, Idaho is supposed to be 49 degrees tomorrow, with showers and wind in the forecast (maybe I should always post my Football Friday entries on Friday - no, that's just what they're expecting)...  We opened favored by 10 and our defense is decent anyway - I'm going Bobcats 24-10 over the Vandals.

The Longhorns opened favored by 28 and Joey says that Kansas has only scored 20 once in a game all season.  This looks to be the last easy game (on paper) on the Texas schedule.  I'm going with the Horns 44-13 over the Jayhawks.

Coach's Ten Best Bets of the Week (Last weekend 3-7/Overall record of 44-45-1)

Miami (+21 1/2) @ Florida State - Lots of points for a 7-0 team...
Ohio State (-30 1/2) @ Purdue - Buckeyes need to impress the voters and computers...
Utah State (-22 1/2) vs. Hawaii - Back on the Aggies' bandwagon...  ;)
Louisiana-Lafayette (-31) vs. New Mexico State - I agree with Joey...
Texas State/Idaho (Under 50) - Bad weather, one single-win team...
Chiefs (-3) @ Bills - Chiefs win by four...  ;)
Chargers (-1) @ Redskins - Chargers off a bye week, Griffin got a knee scare last week...
Steelers (-7) @ Patriots - Pats barely win games, Steelers barely lose games...
Colts/Texans (Over 44 1/2) - Think this one covers easily and Alyssa has more time to eat...
Bears/Packers (Under 49 1/2) - Bears have good D/bad QB and Pack is running out of WR's...

That's a wrap - just remember that the "at least 8-2" isn't a guarantee...  Joey actually said that he's been doing very well betting against me...  ;)  Have a great football weekend and don't forget to set your clocks back an hour before you go to bed on Saturday night!
